Powerbank

Design:

Sandberg is certainly no stranger when it comes to designing products that look good and with the Powerbank 1200, they remind us of this fact. It’s a rectangular shaped unit that is just the right size to be carried around in a pocket or bag for the day, it sort of reminds me of a portable tape player from back in the day. The top and bottom layers are coloured in Black whilst the middle is Grey, which adds a sandwich effect to the overall design. One of my favourite parts of the design of this Powerbank is that instead of using a few LED lights marked from o to 100%, it instead makes use of a small LCD screen to display the battery percentage left on the device as well as the current voltage outputs been used. This is a lot netter than the standard LED light system which only give you a range of power left instead of a full amount. Along the top are the usual things found on a Powerbank by Sandberg, two USB out ports, a USB in port and a small LED flashlight. On the left-hand side of the product on the area coloured in Grey is the Sandberg logo and the power button.

In use:

The Powerbank 12000 actually came with a fully charged battery, which is a nice surprise as most of the time things like this come with just over 50% and also given that thing has been in a warehouse and then shipped from Denmark over the space of two days and still kept its charge, well that just makes things a lot sweeter. This tells me that the Powerbank doesn’t easily lose charge when not in use and in the past I have come across Powerbanks that just can’t keep their charge for long when not in use, so this is definitely a huge distinction mark for the Powerbank 12000 and certainly separates it from others in its class.

It’s good for two reasons that this Powerbank came fully charged, one is as I said above it’s great at holding charge and the other one is that I didn’t have to wait for 13 to hours to charge this for first-time use. Unfortunately, a full charge of this Powerbank will take about 13 to 14 hours, thanks to the 5V input port used. This is a bit of an issue really if you are rushing but don’t have the time to fully charge the device. The only way around this is to ensure the Powerbank is fully charged the night before.

When it comes to charging phones the Powerbank 12000 is a lot faster than it is at charging itself. It has both a 5 V 1.0 A and 5 V 2.1 A out port. I have used it with my HTC One M9 plugged into both ports and have noticed excellent charging times from both ports. The HTC One M9 has a 2,840 mAh battery and this Powerbank has a 12000 mAh battery so that means charging my phone on this device can be done several times and as proved by my testing I have so far gotten a good few charges out of one charge.

The LED light which is activated by simply double pressing the power button and turned off the same way is bright enough to light up small dark corners.

Pros:

  • A brilliant informative LCD display
  • Nice design
  • Plenty of juice
  • Speedy charging time for phones
  • Price (Only £39.99)

Cons:

  • Time it takes to fully charge the Powerbank 12000

Overall:

A great Powerbank by a great company. The LCD screen is a brilliant way to show the user information such as the remaining battery level of the Powerbank and unlike the normal LED system found on this sort of device, it actually gives you a more informed approach to the remaining level by actually giving you a full number instead of a range. This is another excellent Powerbank by the talent at Sandberg. At only £39.99 this truly is worth having for those times where you are going to be away from a plug socket but still want to use your phone or tablet. Sandberg are onto a winner with that LCD screen.

Please note: I was sent a free sample in return for an honest and unbiased review. This has had no effect on my overall opinion of the product.
