If you need a camera that is discreet then this isn’t your thing. This camera has been designed to be anything but discreet. It’s large, sits on a big square base and just loves to flaunt its looks. I suppose it could be possible to hide it in between stuff, but it still pretty big, however this isn’t too much of a problem if you’re using it for non-surveillance activities such as keeping an eye on your pets while out or using it as a baby monitor camera, which is what is being used for in this house.
The camera itself if a balled shaped unit that sits on top of a square-shaped base. It’s a pan and tilt camera that means from the motor in the base it can be moved up and down and side to side remotely from a device such as a smartphone.
The base itself is a square shape. Around the back of it are an Ethernet port, a MicroSD slot, four-alarm connectors and a DC 5V in port. Each side is home to a speaker and air vent holes. At the front is a small black colored rectangle with four holes in, this is the microphone.
If you choose to, you can have this camera mounted to a wall using the provided mount, which from past experience takes about 5 minutes to install. As I’m not mounting this camera, I haven’t done this part, but like I say from previous experience it’s an easy job.
Setting this camera up was really quite easy and took about 5 minutes of my time. First of all, you have to download an App from the Play Store or Apple App Store depending on your device. Once this is installed fire the app up and set the camera up, making sure that you first set it up using an Ethernet cable. Add the camera by clicking the add button on the app and then choose manual setup and add the device ID and password which are found on a little sticker on the side of the camera. Once this is done the camera is ready to view. If you want the camera setup over WiFi, you have to complete all the steps above and then press the reset button on the camera until you hear a whoosh noise after about 5 seconds. Once the camera has fully rebooted itself press the settings icon on the app and select network and change the type to WiFi, then find your network and add the required details. Once done you are fully set up to use WiFi.
The video quality of this camera has really surprised me as it is quite clear and smooth, even in night mode, which of great importance to me as I am using it mainly as a baby monitor. The sound picked up is also great and is clear on both ends. By both ends I mean the two way audio intercom that is built into this camera. Even viewing the camera from external networks far from my own home, the quality of both video and audio remains perfect.
the camera can save footage but to this it needs to have a MicroSD installed for storage and unfortunately, the app doesn’t allow for remote recording.
The app is easy to use and allows me to use my finger to control the camera’s pan and tilt function by swiping left, right,up or down. There is a small delay when swiping but this really isn’t a concern given the nature of controlling things over the internet. the app even allows you to capture screenshots of the scene that save directly to your phone, which is great for getting face shots perfect, especially if the camera is being used a security camera.
- Many different ideal uses
- Excellent video and audio quality
- Easy Setup
- No built-in storage
- No remote record
- Presence is obvious
A fantastic camera that provides brilliant video and audio quality. It’s easy to set up and the application that powers the camera is easy to use. This is perfect from most security needs, but isn’t exactly incognito.
Please Note: I received this at a discounted price in return for an honest and unbiased review.
