At first look, this laser measurer appears to be a basic looking device with only a sliding switch that opens to turn on the device and reveal a single button. The other measurers I have reviewed all had several buttons on the front for each of the devices functions, this one however, doesn’t, no instead it has the buttons I mentioned above and something the other didn’t have, a full-color touch screen that is used to change things such as the units of measurement, the mode you want to use and even an option to activate Bluetooth, which is another feature none of the previous measurers I have reviewed had.
Around the back is a battery cover that covers the housing for the batteries. The device is powered by two AAA batteries, which have been kindly provided in the package. Above the cover is a threaded hole for mounting the device to a tripod stand so you can use it at different heights. Down the right-hand side at the bottom is a hoop to allow you to attach a wrist strap to the device, again this is included in the package.
The laser and measuring lens are located at the top of the device.
A fascinating part of this device is its Bluetooth connection that allows it to connect to a smart phone running Android 4.3 or higher or an Apple iPhone starting from the iPhone 4S as well as iPads starting from the iPad 3. To this you need to find an application called Mileseey iMeter in your devices respected market store. Mileseey is the actual company who have designed this product and allow it to be sold under other brands such as Elephas, so the application is 100% designed for this device.
The application is fairly easy to get the hang off and allows you to control the device remotely and even transfer data over from the device to keep on your phone as a reminder when you go out to purchase the stuff you need, such as carpets or even cuts of wood.
I’ll be honest it took me time to get used to this device, but then again it took me longer to get used to the ones with several buttons present. This is expected as it the sort of technology you really don’t come across everyday. Once I had read the manual and had a few plays with the device it became second nature to me and I was able to use it confidently enough to measure my carpets in my front room. Having already had the carpets measured recently, I already knew what size to expect and the device actually gave me a very accurate measurement that matched the measurements I already had. I also like the fact I am able to display two measurements a time on the screen to keep my mind fresh and in the loop.
A fantastic bit f kit which delivers both a touchscreen and Bluetooth to the table, which similar products I have reviewed in the past do not have. It takes some time to get used to, but as soon as you have mastered it, it literally becomes as easy as 1-2-3.
Please Note: I received this for free in return for my honest and unbiased review.
